This is really awesome. There isn't enough love for this guy. All because of what happened in the movie, people hate him.......come on. I think he did pretty good as a leader. Yes, he did have a rough start, but he also had a lot of weight on his shoulders. He even said in one of the episodes "I know I will never be as a good of a leader like you were, but I sure will try." After Optimus flew his ship to one of the astroids.
well, the way i always saw it is that with Optimus ( who WAS indeed great and memorable, no question), you had a leader who was too perfect. He always had the right judgement, and he could whip any 'con's butt, rarely made mistakes, yada yada. too perfect. after a while, that gets uninteresting and boring. with Rodimus, we had someone who was worthy, but was inexperienced and unsure of themself, who was prone to make mistakes, and so on, which i found much more intriguing. Leadership should never be instantanious perfection, it's something you've got to grow into. Rodimus was like the TF equivilent of King Arthur, or even Luke Skywalker. Watching a character grow into maturity is much more interesting than watching someone who's already mature.
I agree with you on that point and I do see his potential, I just wonder.. maybe he was really afraid instead of being bored with the title at first? He just seemed to not care at all, in my eyes. " Leave me alone", "Give me a break", those kinda things. Just seems that he was afraid of it, maybe that's it.
Now that you say this I can see it more clearly, im so dumb! THIS is exactly why i really really like armada starscream, it's sorta the same thing. It doesnt have to be all funny and goofy all the time, I actually like some serious episodes of TF like armada and cybertron once in a while. Starscream was so torn about what he was doing just like Rodimus and he had alot of doubts about himself, the only difference is that starscream died and his life was filled with sorrow.. i still cry when i think about that.
No I really like Rodimus, I guess I just had to get it turned a little. It just seemed that he didnt give a s**t about responsability but it was just a feeling of being vulnerable and stressed because of the difficult and demanding title as "Prime".
Thanks for the input, gave me something to think about
yea, i think his "leave me alone" and "give me a break" attitude may come from that tho his body may have matured as Rodimus Prime, he was still a rebelious teen at heart, and judging by his characterization at the begining of Transformers: The "Animated" Movie (hehe new nickname), he was prolly the type of rebelious teen who, if placed with such responsibility, would rather kick back and have some fun and such. Hence the importance of the episode "The Importance Hardest to Bear".
Thanks for the input on the anime Starscream too. It's been a while since i watched Armada, but i think i remember the jist of what you're saying. Energon i think i only caught about half of, and Cybertron i barely caught at all cuz of the lousy timeslot, lol
Hehe seems like you and I are able to get some quite good talks about this subject. God, there was a time, I dont remember when but it was when Prime was back from the dead (as usual i guess, lol. He often dies) and Hot Rod got back to his normal self again after being Rodimus for quite a while and he goes something like: YEAH HOT ROD'S BACK, IT'S PARTY TIME!" damn that made me laugh
oh and btw i think it sucked a bit that Energon was a follow up on Armada... it ruined Starscream I think. He fell down from the throne i put him on in Armada after watching some of Energon ( which i btw dont really like. You cant really see what's what on the transformers because they're so bulky and huge and the young Ironhide annoys the hell out of me! lol. Man.. he doesnt deserve to be called IRONHIDE, G1 Ironhide should sue him )
hmhm yup, that was "Dark Awakening". Optimus was more of a zombie in that one than truly brought back to life.
lol, i forgot all about the Energon Ironhide XD. hehe, the name certainly different fit his personality, but then, the english versions of the animes always recycled classic names simply for name recognition to nod out to the fans. after all "what's in a name? that which we call a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet." the names don't really matter, it's the characters that matter. even Beast Wars tended to recycle some names. in G1, Inferno was an autobot fire engine, but hundreds of years later, there's a predacon fire ant called Inferno XD
also, as i understand it, the japanese version of Energon WASN'T a continuation of Armada...or maybe it was, and the jap version of Cybertron was separate from those 2...either way, it's the US that tried to tie all 3 together as "The Unicron Trilogy". How exactly did Energon ruin the anime starscream for you? it's been so long, i forget the details of the character, lol.
lol well Starscream just forgot who he was (because he died in armada but was revived by Megatron in Energon) and he acted like a perfectly good slave to Megatron and was scared of him even when he got his memory back, that's not our starscream *sighs*. But Screamer and his personality rocks in G1, Armada and Cybertron.
Haha speaking of what you wrote about Inferno being a predacon, I also find it extremely funny that Optimus Prime goes from being a huge truck to become a gorilla XD and Prowl being a weird little minicon in G2 i think it was, lol
well, to be fair, continuity-wise, Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal are two completely different characters. Primal is, like, Prime's decendant or something. And for a show like Beast Wars, i think a gorilla was perfectly fitting for Big Bot...that or a lion, but that honor went to Leo Prime in Beast Wars II, lol
